Evans Ck./Wimer Loop

Ride Description

This 50 mile loop is a great way to get off of the busy roads of the Rogue Valley and take mini-break from civilization without significant climbing. Regardless of direction, you'll have one long, but gradual climb and descent with the majority of the ride on flat terrain with minor rollers. If ridden counter-clockwise, your only significant climb is Meadows Rd, which at 3 miles and just over a 3% average grade is a fast climb. From there, it's a 20 mile descent into Rogue River with more than a few little rollers. The north end of the ride from Sams Valley to Rogue River is transitions from the flatlands north of the Table Rocks to the narrow gorge of Evans Creek and to the lush farmland between Wimer and Rogue River. The south end of the ride directly follows the Rogue River for 15 miles.

About This Ride

If starting in Gold Hill as club rides frequently do, you'll head north on 234 for several miles before hitting Meadows and the only climb of the day. Take a left at E.Evans Creek Road and follow it to Wimer. Once in Wimer, you can take East Evans or West Evans Creek road - East Evans is shorter but has more traffic - West Evans has less traffic, a few more rollers and is generally a more scenic stretch of road. From Rogue River, the ride would normally follow N.River Rd back to 234 and Gold Hill, but nothing says you can't cross the river and take 99 back to the start.

Directions

The Gold Hill Library on 4th St is a central location and a common start for the ride. The 50 mile loop can easilly be done starting anywhere in the valley by taking Table Rock Rd to Sams Valley. The Table Rock Road Race in Spring uses part of this course and starts at Sams Valley Elementary School on Table Rock Rd, near Meadows.

Traffic

Traffic is very light between Sams Valley and Rogue River. Even between Rogue River and Gold Hill, traffic is light on N.River Road. The roads are in excellent condition, but Evans Creek Rd was chipsealed with a very course coat of gravel in 2007.
